Shoes are one of the most important part of your business ensemble, in as much as they can serve as a determinant on how you carry yourself. If you can look good by managing yourself well, then perhaps you can also effectively manage your job. Among business people, shoes are the most difficult to pull off. Unlike clothes which you can mix and match, and hence play, shoes and their designs are given a more fixed position in terms of clothing. If you wear the wrong shoes for an amazing tie-shirt-pants ensemble, the whole clothing set is ruined.

The general rule in wearing shoes is that the pair must be darker than the pants, or at least belongs in the same shade as the pants. And so if you’re wearing dressy trousers in black, light black, gray, and navy blue colors, you must stick to black leather shoes. If you’re in a formal occasion, pick the shiny ones; on the other hand if you’re in everyday business environment you can wear something more simple. Bulky shoes are out, unless it’s winter. It is more elegant to see shoes with pointy toes.
